I found this characteristic an attribute on one male vocal, but it made a different male singer’s voice sound too thick. The supplied frequency plot shows a polar pattern that is impressively consistent through the entire spectrum: it's almost perfectly cardioid at 400Hz and 6kHz, with a small rear pickup lobe developing between these points and a slightly greater tendency towards omnidirectionality from 12kHz upwards. We use a Zoom L20 Additionally, we never had this issue with the other vocal mics we use (shure beta 87A, shure sm58 beta, telefunken m80). I've been looking into some higher-end mics for live ambient minimalistic music where tons of details in the vocals matter a lot.

Whether she’s working in country or pop, Dolly has built up a remarkable collection of hit songs that transcend genre, including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You. You can then choose which finance term you'd like to apply for, and change your deposit if you wish. On-axis sound is remarkably clear and balanced, with only gentle proximity effect and no tendency to harshness or sibilance.

nothing wrong with using a decent condenser with otherwise modest gear btw - but yeah, even a single faulty cable can ruin a performance. Glad you have the personal skills to get them on your side - they usually end up getting upset at any suggestions and just ruin your sound even more. It’s designed to have low handling noise to perform well on stage, and can withstand up to 145dB SPL. It looks great on stage, and every musician I put it in front of was excited to sing into it, which says a lot.

I’ve used a pair of omnidirectional QTC40 mics in the studio for years, in a variety of applications. From broadcasts and podcasts, to voiceovers, stage performance and studio work, this mic will thrive in a tonne of different auditory situations. It put across all the nuances of quiet passages, without ever becoming screechy or nasal when the time came to belt out the chorus; and it was always articulate without exaggerating sibilants.

I've yet to put it through its paces on recording other than voice, but I can imagine it doing very well on cello, flutes and other melody instruments. If you have any experience with Earthworks microphones, this falls very much into the same family of natural, balanced, and detailed sound.

The Earthworks apparently sound lovely but the noise floor is still an issue for me, and the polar pattern is too wide for live use in many situations. It looks incredible, sounds excellent and is potentially as valuable in the studio as it is on stage, and if you are in the market for a high-end capacitor stage mic, you'd be foolish to omit it from your shortlist. it seems it's something in the midrange that makes it butter smooth on my vocals, and it seems that it have a lot more proximity effect. Singers get right up on the mic during live performances, and the screen did a nice job in catching most of it, but some heavily emphasized P’s still popped through. The microphone was designed to produce a uniform frequency response out to 90 degrees off-axis, and a consistent low-frequency response even when used at varying distances.Signal-to-noise ratio of the SR314 is said to be 79 dB (A-weighted), and the mic can handle a maximum SPL of 145dB—so it should easily accommodate the loudest of screamers.

It’s a welcome and inviting sound that allows me to add some body to my tenor voice without losing the EW window of clarity. The SR314’s cardioid pattern is down 5 to 10 dB at 90 degrees off-axis at frequencies ranging from 400 Hz to 4 kHz.

A highpass filter set around 150 Hz with a steep slope (18 dB/octave) helped reduce this thickness; that filter frequency was much higher than I’d normally use on this particular singer. This high-definition microphone features an exceptionally flat 20Hz to 30kHz frequency response, low handling noise, and a uniform cardioid polar pattern. One glance at the SR314 won't be enough for most people, in fact, because this is a stunningly good-looking microphone. I also used it for another musician who I ran sounds for and with zero gain on the board channel and no compression, her levels were perfect. I have average sized hands and I find the body/handle of the mic somewhat uncomfortable - it's very wide for a handheld and there is no ridge or contour that keeps the hand from sliding up toward the grill.
